A homeless immigrant from Kosovo charged at a cop and repeatedly elbowed him in the face because he had been caught street dealing with 34 bags of cannabis.

Emin Sopi's life 'deteriorated' into drink and drugs when his parents returned to their homeland, which was ravaged by war in the late 1990s.

He ended up homeless and involved in robbery, burglary and drugs. When a suspicious PC saw a group of men huddled together in Cheetham Hill, Sopi fled with a black plastic bag stuffed with cannabis but he was brought down and elbowed the bobby in the face three or four times.

Today he was spared jail when he appeared before a judge at Manchester Crown Court who gave him a last chance to 'grow up' and turn his life a round.
