Police have apologised after a PC suggested that a victim of crime should bid for his own property on Ebay. Two bikes, worth around £2,000, were stolen Duncan Smith’s shed, in Stretford, back in February.
The dad-of-three reported the incident to the police but was advised that the case would be closed because there were no leads.
Duncan spent the weekend searching Ebay and Gumtree for the bikes and eventually found his son’s Cube mountain bike listed from an account in Bolton.
He got in touch with GMP again - via the 101 number - to give them an update and was told an officer would call him. But when they called on Tuesday, Duncan says he was told GMP don’t have the ‘manpower’ to help recover the bike, so no further action will be taken. “
