Harry Potter book that had been gathering dust on a bookshelf for two decades has sold for £40,000 at an auction.The 1997 hardback was gifted to a 68-year-old retired civil servant, who admitted he narrowly avoided dropping in the bath when reading it to his children.Only 500 first editions of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, which are deemed the "holy grail" for collectors, were ever printed.Luckily the book was still in good condition - despite the owner having had no idea how valuable it would become.The seller's copy, which has travelled with the family across the world, was predicted to rake in £30,000 - but it has sold for even more by Hansons Auctioneers, Edinburgh Live reports.The seller said: "The book was a present.
