Celtic and Rangers enter discussions for Colts teams to play in the Lowland League

Celtic have entered into discussions with the Lowland League to have ‘Colt’ teams admitted to their setup. If the move goes ahead, it could open up the future possibility of both Glasgow clubs having an additional side in the SPFL – with a likely ‘cap’ coming at League 1 or Championship level.

However, the plans to admit sides into the regional tier would only be in place for one season initially, requires the approval of the existing Lowland League clubs and is being planned for the coming campaign.

A statement from the Lowland League said: "The Scottish Lowland Football League (SLFL) can today confirm that it has entered into discussions to invite Rangers and Celtic ‘B’ teams to enter the league for next season (2021/22) on a one-season.
