Burglary suspect chased down by police dog after being spotted by an eagle-eyed neighbour

Stalybridge in the early hours of Wednesday morning following reports of 'suspicious activity'. When they got there, they discovered a home had been broken into and began searching the area.The police dog managed to help track down the suspect, and after a chase through gardens a 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary.Evidence was also recovered nearby.

Inspector Andy Holden said that over lockdown reports of burglaries in Tameside had dropped by around a third, but in recent weeks there had been a spate of break-ins in Stalybridge, understood to be around a dozen.

He thanked the neighbour who called police on Wednesday morning, and issued a warning to others to make sure their homes were secure - despite the hot weather.Insp.
