Manori Ravindran International Editor Buckingham Palace has set a date for the coronation of King Charles III. The event will take place on Saturday, May 6, at Westminster Abbey, and will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby.

The king’s coronation will take place almost eight months after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on Sept. 8. The monarch was laid to rest on Sept.

19. King Charles technically became monarch when Queen Elizabeth died, but the coronation is considered a “symbolic celebration” of his reign.

He will be crowned alongside his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, whose official titles is now the Queen Consort. The coronation will be the first in close to 70 years, and follows the Queen’s June 1953 coronation.
