British Airways flight declares mid-air emergency before diverting to Aberdeen

A British Airways flight from London Heathrow to Iceland has declared a mid-air medical emergency while travelling over Scotland.

The plane has been diverted to Aberdeen International Airport having sent out a 7700 squawk code after a passenger became unwell shortly after take off.

The BA800 flight to Keflavik departed at around 7.25am but was forced to turn around a short time later. The alert was issued as it flew over the Western Isles, with the pilots requesting a priority landing.

The passenger is expected to receive medical assistance after being taken off the aircraft, however their current condition is not known.A spokesperson for British Airways confirmed that the plane landed safely and is expected to continue onto its final destination shortly.
