The Prime Minister is 'unable' to turn down a steep pay rise issued to all MPs, a Downing Street spokesperson has said. Boris Johnson will be receiving an £2,200 extra a year, which he claims is impossible to decline.
When asked whether he would donate the pay increase to charity, the Prime Minister's official spokesman declined to comment.
Despite this, he does have the power to change the ministerial pay which members of the government receive in addition to their MP's salary.
While that has been frozen it will not be cut to counteract the increase given to all members of the House of Commons.
