Today, Bob Dylan surprised fans with a 17-minute song titled “Murder Most Foul.” It’s his first original song since 2012 and documents the November 1963 assassination of US President John F.
Kennedy. The folk singer opens by referencing how JFK was shot while riding in a motorcade: Later on, Dylan addresses the conspiracy theories about murder suspect Lee Harvey Oswald, who was fatally shot by nightclub owner Jack Ruby while being transferred to county jail: He sings from Oswald’s perspective, alluding to the single bullet theory and the former US Marine’s denial of guilt: The last few verses find Dylan referencing a litany of classic artists as well as song, album, and movie titles.
