Black people are 'more than four times' likely' to die of coronavirus-related illness, ONS data finds

Black men are 4.2 times more likely to die from a coronavirus -related condition than white men, and black women 4.3 times more likely than white women, new analysis suggests.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has used data extrapolated from death certificates up to April 17, combined with 2011 Census records, to model the impact Covid-19 is having on different ethnic groups.

The figures, which have been adjusted for age, suggest that men and women from all ethnic minority groups – except women with Chinese ethnicity – are at greater risk of dying from Covid-19 compared with those of white ethnicity.
