A bird flu 'prevention zone' has been declared across the UK, chiefs veterinary officers have said. It follows 'a number of detections of avian influenza', the Depratment for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said.
The Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) has been put in place across the whole of Great Britain to 'mitigate the risk of the disease spreading amongst poultry and captive birds', added Defra.
It's now a legal requirement for all bird keepers to follow strict biosecurity measures to protect their flocks - including 'back yard keepers'.
Keepers with more than 500 birds will have to restrict access for non-essential people on their sites. Workers will need to change clothing and footwear before entering bird enclosures and site
