Better Call Saul showrunner Peter Gould has confirmed the sexuality of character Gus Fring in a new interview.*Spoilers for the latest season of Better Call Saul ahead*In this week’s episode of the hit Breaking Bad prequel series, Fring can be seen flirting with another man at a bar after Fring convinces Don Eladio that he didn’t hurt Lalo Salamanca.Speaking on The Ringer podcast ‘The Watch’ Gould explained what was going on in the scene.“Gus is holding onto his rage, his desire for revenge, and maybe he’s holding onto this romance that he had, with his boyfriend Max [his slain business partner from Breaking Bad],” he said, confirming that Fring is gay.“We know that Gus had some kind of…we’ve never been very specific, he had some kind of violent past before that, but [Max’s death] seems to be the turning point for Gus Fring. “He’s made a choice that he’s gonna hollow himself out and he can’t really be himself with another person.”A flashback to Breaking Bad season four showed Gus and Max meeting with Eladio for the first time when the pair offered a partnership with the cartel to sell drugs.Eladio rejected them and Hector Salamanca killed Max in front of Gus – something that later led to him wanting revenge for him killing his boyfriend.Fans watching the show now think this love fuelled his revenge against the cartel gangsters and Hector Salamanca for being the murderer.In other news, the Better Call Saul cameos of Breaking Bad stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul were supposed to be a surprise, the actors have said.The pair are set to reprise their roles as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman respectively in the final season of the AMC spinoff, and were announced to return back in April.“We were asked to keep it a secret.
