The contents of a historic Scottish country house dating back to the 18th century are set to be sold at auction later this month. On January 31, auctioneers Dreweatts will be selling objects from Cairness House in Buchan, Aberdeenshire.
It has described the building as "one of the most historically important houses in the region’s history and more specifically, the history of Neoclassicism in Scotland".
The country house, which was built between 1791 and 1797 to designs by Scottish architect James Playfair, was a spectacular home in the 18th and 19th centuries for historic figures such as Charles Gordon of Buthlaw and Cairness and Major Thomas Gordon.
It gradually fell into disrepair throughout the 20th century, before being purchased by new owners in 2001 who have carried out work restoring the house and grounds.
