Anniversary to shine a spotlight on £500k Loch Katrine steamship restoration appeal

Get the latest top news stories sent straight to your inbox with our daily newsletterIt is hoped this Sunday’s 250th anniversary of the birth of celebrated author Sir Walter Scott will help the restoration of the Loch Katrine vessel which bears his name.The charitable trust which runs the boat hopes it will draw further attention to their Save Our Steamship appeal which aims to raise £500,000 for the restoration.As well as writing many historical novels, Sir Walter Scott, born in Edinburgh in 1771, wrote the poem ‘Lady of the Lake’, published in 1810, which was set in the Trossachs.As a result visitors flocked to the Loch Katrine area giving it the name the ‘birthplace of Scottish tourism’.Thousands of people have sailed on the Sir Walter.
