Amazon has announced the the annual and monthly membership costs for Amazon Prime are going to be rising in the coming weeks.
The news was announced on Thursday (February 3) as part of Amazon’s fourth quarter earnings report and the company listed a bunch of reasons for the price increase.
Amazon brought in $470 billion in net sales in 2021 and earned a net income of $33.4 billion. Click inside to check out the news… The annual membership will be rising nearly 17%, from $119 to $139 a year.
The monthly membership rise $2, from $12.99 to $14.99 a month. Some of the reasons for the price increase include Thursday Night Football becoming an Amazon Prime exclusive, the new The Lord of the Rings series, expanded same-day delivery, a new pharmacy delivery service, and more. “As expected over the holidays, we saw higher costs driven by labor supply shortages and inflationary pressures, and these issues persisted into the first quarter due to Omicron,” Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said in a statement (via THR). “Despite these short-term challenges, we continue to feel optimistic and excited about the business as we emerge from the pandemic.
