'Aggressive' opiate user's complaint about Ayrshire GP practice thrown out by watchdog

NHS Ayrshire and Arran to task. The Scottish Public Services Ombudsman (SPSO) this week sided with the health board and threw out the complaint raised against them in relation to the case.The medical practice has not been disclosed, nor has the identity of the opiate user, who was known only as ‘C’.

The SPSO said NHS Ayrshire and Arran acted “reasonably” and highlighted the background to the case. In their report the SPSO said: “C complained that the practice had unfairly accused them of being threatening and aggressive, resulting in their removal from the practice list and that C had been unreasonably placed on an opiate reduction programme.“C said that they had been targeted because they had successfully complained about the services.
