There are countless things to be nervous about when going under the knife, and waking up with foreign objects inside you should never be one of them.

Patients are often re-assured that they are in good hands - of skilled professionals who have spent years studying medicine.

But this does not mean that doctors and surgeons are exempt from human error. And the latest research confirms this, as a new analysis has revealed that there have been nearly 100 cases of a foreign object – including drill bits – left inside NHS patients by mistake.

About 407 “Never Events” – things so serious they should never happen – were recorded in the NHS in England from April 2021 until March 2022, reports Wales Online.
