The answer is actually much sweeter than you think. “I've got my best friend here with me, who is also my agent,” Butler responded when asked about his plus-one. “And I owe my career to him, so as a thank you, I wanted him to be by my side tonight.” Oscar nominees have been known to bring their parents, children, or other important relatives to the ceremony as their dates.
