underscores’ “Everybody’s dead!” video is an absurdist nightmare

Of all the hyperpop bands in the business, underscores might be the most faithful descendants of their pop-punk progenitors.

boneyard aka fearmonger, their December 2021 follow-up to last March's fishmonger, centers on its penultimate track, "Tongue in cheek," which features blink-182's Travis Barker on the drums.

But it's the opener "Everybody's dead!" that sets the scene for the wild, seven-track ride. Its video begins with a classic horror sequence as a car approaches a dark figure unseen by its drivers, but quickly descends into the heavy-metal madness one wouldn't expect until the end of the film.

Cockroaches, big-guy wrestlers, and mirrored characters acting eerily different from one another make for an absurd and thrilling experience that ends up being more fun than scary.
