Uganda | Prime minister overturns ban on “immoral” music festival

On Tuesday, MPs held a heated debate on whether the event, which is set to start on 15 September, should be allowed to take place.

According to the Ugandan Parliament’s Twitter page, one MP described the festival as “a breeding ground for sexual immorality”.

Minister of State for Tourism Martin Mugarra argued that the event was an important source of tourism revenue and pointed out that more than 8,000 international tourists had already booked tickets to attend the festival.

This was largely rejected by MPs with the Speaker of the Parliament Anita Annet Among admonished the minister’s stance. “We are talking about the morality of this country; we are talking about our children.
