WITH many families preparing to make festive road trips to see loved ones, drivers are being told to make sure they are properly rested before setting off on long journeys.
Being tired when you’re at the wheel raises the risk of a collision, because you’re less aware of what’s happening around you and are likely to react late, says breakdown and road safety organisation GEM Motoring Assist.Figures from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents show fatigue can be a factor in up to 20 per cent of all road collisions, and up to 25 per cent of fatal and serious crashes.GEM chief Neil Worth said: “A fatigue-related crash is about 50 per cent more likely to result in death or serious injury, simply because a driver who has fallen asleep
