A raft of Bury bus services could be saved or boosted as part of a £1.5m cash injection for Greater Manchester's network. The Department for Transport last month announced a £220m national pot for bus services.

Of that, £30m has been earmarked for authorities outside London to restore lost bus routes where most needed, extend existing ones or launch new services.

According to a letter sent to MPs by Transport for Greater Manchester, the region has been allocated up to £1.59m from the fund - the biggest such share in the country.

But to secure the funding, authorities now have to complete 'statements of intent' outlining how Greater Manchester Combined Authority will use the funding for the community.
