Firefighters worked through the night to tackle the blaze at the site, in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan, yesterday evening (Saturday, April 24).

Crews were called to the scene in Three Sisters Road at about 9.30pm. They found a fire involving packed plastic, cardboard and wooden pallets which had been stacked in the yard area of the warehouse, covering an area of roughly 30 metres by 30 metres.

At its height, around 60 firefighters from across the North West were trying to bring the blaze under control. Staff working at the warehouse were evacuated due to the fire.
