Tampon tax is finally scrapped meaning there will no longer be VAT on sanitary products

Great news for women all across the country; there will be no more tampon tax. Period.The new Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, today announced that the VAT that has long since been added to tampons and other sanitary products will be scrapped.

Speaking in parliament to announce The Budget the chancellor said: "I can also confirm, now we’ve left the EU, that I will abolish the tampon tax”, with it being met with rapturous applause.

The tampon tax resulted in a charge of five percent being added on top of the price of sanitary products.This was due to the fact that they were considered to be luxuries rather than essential items.The move will mean that the women in the UK will save an average of £40 over their lifetime due to the fact.
