A superfit mum-of-three from Cornton has completed an incredible charity challenge, by climbing a peak in the Ochil Hills 100 times in six weeks.Amanda Namey scaled 418 metre high Dumyat at least twice a day, much of it in odd walking boots. She embarked on the mammoth effort to raise funds for Equi-Power, the organisation set up to with the aim of building a new Riding for the Disabled (RDA) centre for Central Scotland at Kildean in Stirling. She began her epic challenge on March 1 and, with one short break to attend a wedding in London, completed it on Easter Sunday. She was accompanied on her final ascent by colleagues from Equi-Power, where she works part-time, family, friends and a number of supporters she met for the first time on the hill.“I’ve calculated that I walked 324 miles in all weathers, climbed 84,200 feet (almost as much as three times up Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain), lost 50 squeaky balls (for the family dogs, Hector and Lily) and, so far, raised almost £4,000,” said Amanda. She also lost one walking boot, which fell apart after climb 44.Click here for more news and sport from the Stirling area.“Breaking in boots can be agony, so I decided to use just the right one of the new pair I bought.
It still caused me a lot of nerve pain and soreness, but I did 66 climbs in odd boots.”Equi-Power has to raise a total of £140,000 in crowdfunding before it can apply for major funding towards the construction of the Kildean centre.
It is expected to cost around £2 million. The organisation was formed in 2016, a year after the Riding for the Disabled centre in Bannockburn was forced to close in a bitter dispute with the new landowner.
