More news is emerging from Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, underway in London, including the announcement that three new “Star Wars” movies are in the pipeline.

As Deadline reports, Daisy Ridley made a surprise appearance at the event, revealing she’ll be reprising Rey in one of the three upcoming big-screen additions to the franchise. READ MORE: First Look At Rosario Dawson In ‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’ As New Trailer Drops The film will be directed by Canadian filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who recently helmed the “Ms.

Marvel” series for Disney+, with “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight writing the screenplay. The new movie will be set after the events of  Ridley’s previous “Star Wars” film, “Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker”, and will follow her efforts building a new Jedi Order.

In addition, directors James Mangold (“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”) and Dave Filoni (whose “Star Wars” TV credits include “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett”) have been tapped to direct the other two new films in the franchise.

Even before you stepped foot inside the event’s vast ExCeL Centre venue in East London, the Star Wars community was well represented, with people of all ages and ethnicities cosplaying as their favorite characters, be they as popular as Darth Vader or as niche as the umbrella-like lightsaber-wielding Sith Lord from “Star Wars: Visions.” If you need a reminder that, sometimes, fandoms can be good, Star Wars Celebration is it. Without the racist backlash against new characters played by people of color, or interminable hate tweets about specific movies, the event showcases the fandom at its best — as a joyous, inventive, inclusive and delightfully weird affair; a place where you’re as likely to stumble upon a mob of prisoner-attired fans chanting “One Way Out!” in unison as you are to witness an Orson Krennic striptease.

Courteeners, English Teacher and Louis Tomlinson were among the acts to be honoured at the first-ever Northern Music Awards.The inaugural ceremony – hosted by the UK’s largest music therapy charity, Nordoff And Robbins – took place at the Albert Hall in Manchester last night (April 23) to celebrate northern artists, festivals, venues and industry figures.Presented by BBC Radio 6 Music DJ Chris Hawkins, the event featured live performances from Courteeners frontman Liam Fray, as well as English Teacher, Lisa Stansfield, The K’s and more.Guest presenters from the region included former Manchester United footballer Gary Neville, New Order‘s Gillian Gilbert and Stephen Norris, and Grimsby-born actor Thomas Turgoose (This Is England). ‌ Neville awarded Courteeners with the Band Of The Year prize.
