Rail investigators have called for improvements to emergency alert systems after six trains broke speed limits on the Stonehaven crash line following the tragedy.
A fresh report has identified “shortcomings” in the system used to warn drivers of restrictions after trains hit speeds of up to 100mph in a temporary 40mph zone during a weather warning in December last year.
The incident came less than four months after three people died in a horror derailment on a section of the same track at Carmont, near Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire.The Rail Accident Investigations Branch (RAIB) concluded that drivers had been unaware of the limits, enforced due to heavy rain forecast in the area.It said the industry has “more work to do to establish a suitable
