The Supreme Court has denied a Texas effort Friday that would have essentially nullified the presidential elections in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia and Wisconsin. “The State of Texas’s motion for leave to file a bill of complaint is denied for lack of standing under Article III of the Constitution,” the Supreme Court’s order reads.

The Senate aligned with the House to approve an interim spending bill Friday for one week to avoid a government shutdown.  The Senate approved the plan by voice vote and the bill now goes to President Trump to sign, which he is expected to do.The plan funds the government until midnight on Dec. 19.  The hope is for the Senate and House to use this week to come together on an omnibus spending package and fund the government for the rest of the fiscal year and to forge an agreement on COVID relief and tack it onto the omnibus.  Possibility of a shutdown loomed earlier this week as some senators stood in the way.The Senate needed all 100 senators to agree to a vote.

The GOP-led Senate overwhelmingly approved a $740 billion major national defense bill on Friday, defying President Trump's veto threats. The final vote was 84-13 on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), well beyond the two-thirds requirement to override a potential veto if Trump carried through on his threat to sink the legislation.  “The Senate’s bipartisan passage of the NDAA shows that members on both sides of the aisle are committed to a strong national defense and to the protection of our women and men in uniform—regardless of petty veto threats from the outgoing president," said Sen.
