The Scottish Government have confirmed 16 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours. The death toll since March 2020 – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – is 10,291 .The latest figures for Scotland showed 7,258 new cases had also been identified overnight.There are currently 1,302 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 32 being treated in intensive care.So far 4,409,367 people have received their first dose of a vaccination, 4,119,889 their second and 3,279,961 a third dose or booster.
It comes as two changes to Scotland’s Covid restrictions came into force today as the country continues to battle its way through the Omicron wave of the virus.
Nicola Sturgeon addressed MSPs at Holyrood on the state of the pandemic in Scotland on Tuesday afternoon. Social distancing measures will be reduced from two metres to one in indoor settings where people have a specific exemption from the need to wear a face covering - such as those leading religious services or carrying out receptionist duties.
Adults taking part in organised activities for children will no longer be required to wear a face covering when they are directly interacting with kids under the age of five.
