Scots funeral directors plans for 24 hour crematoriums and 'funeral broadcasts' amid coronavirus outbreak

One of Scotland's largest funeral directors is preparing for 24 hour cremations and 'funeral broadcasts' to deal with a potential spike in coronavirus deaths.

The round-the-clock plans could be put in place by William Purves, Scotland's largest independent funeral directors. Last night, as the number of cases of Covid-19 confirmed in Scotland rose to 60 it emerged planning for a spike in deaths is well advanced.

Tim Purves, chairman of William Purves, said his firm are well prepared for the outbreak . They have doubled their coffin supplies based on modelling that shows one per cent of the 'at risk' population of the UK dying which would result in 120,000 deaths.A provision for 'funeral by phone' broadcasts if loved ones are not allowed
