Scotland battered by rain and thunderstorms as temperatures set to plummet

Scotland is braced for more torrential rain and thunderstorms today. After enjoying a record-breaking heatwave this week, which included the hottest day of the year so far on Thursday, Scots woke up to a downpour yesterday morning.

A weather warning for rain has been issued for the whole of the country throughout Saturday, with the Met Office warning of potential disruption to travel, flash flooding and power cuts.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly said: “We’ll see an end to the current hot spell this weekend as low pressure arrives from the Atlantic, bringing temperatures more typical for June."It’ll be breezy for all this weekend with heavy showers and longer spells of rain for most, though Sunday could brighten up across.
