School taxis and buses are still getting paid by council

Council bosses are still paying school taxis and buses  in South Ayrshire to stop them from going bust during the pandemic. South Ayrshire Council will fork out about £667,000 to transport operators in April, May and June - which is 75 per cent of the firm's contract value.

There is a fear the companies could go out of business with no journeys running to primaries and secondaries.That would leave the council with no transport for children when schools reopen - potentially leading to problems finding new suppliers.

A South Ayrshire Council spokesman said: “When children and young people return to school, we want the transition to be as smooth as possible.
