Savers put away nearly £5,500 in last 12 months due to reduced spending as a result of restrictions

households managed to save more than £10,000 over the past year due to coronavirus restrictions curbing regular spending. The report from LV= said that across the UK population, one in 12 (8%) of people said their household has managed to save more than £10,000 as a result of reduced spending since lockdown first began in March 2020.

This proportion increased to around one in five (21%) of those with assets of between £100,000 and £500,000 excluding property.

Nearly three-quarters (72%) of people said they have been able to make some savings on outgoings, such as reduced costs from commuting, childcare or eating out.
