Edinburgh Live reported how the restaurant felt like "the punching bag of life" after the mid-service incident on Sunday when the city was battered with rain.

Mark Patonyi, Managing Director at Pier Brasserie, revealed that kind-hearted customers had sprung to the staff's aid when the roof gave way.He told Edinburgh Live: "The ceiling collapsed in the middle of service on Sunday night, we had nine tables in and 60 more to come during the course of the evening."Suddenly the rain just started pouring in and in a matter of just twenty minutes there was too much weight in the roof and the ceiling just collapsed in."The customers who were in were total superstars - we had to shut off the electricity and gas mid-service and everyone was so.
