Ronnie formed The Gap Band in the 1970s alongside his brothers Charlie and Robert. The music style followed in the footsteps of legends such as Stevie Wonder and Earth Wind & Fire.

Their most famous hit was You Dropped a Bomb on Me and the band were a huge hit in the '80s after signing with Mercury Records in 1979.

They collaborated with producer Lonnie Simmons to achieve national success and reached the top of the soul chart with Clinton-style humour lasting in the industry until the late 1980s.
