"A man was making threats towards officers and stated that he had a firearm. After assessment it was confirmed that the man was not in possession of a firearm. "Two officers suffered minor injuries during the incident.  "The man – aged 41 - was arrested a short time later on suspicion of theft, assault and threats to kill.

A woman aged 44 was also arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage. Both  remain in custody for questioning." A spokeswoman for North West Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to Hillgate, a neighbouring road, at 11.30pm.They said: "Someone has taken unwell.

We sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance. Police were on the scene. A patient was taken to hospital."Anyone with information is asked to.
