Organisers of a Republican march due to take place in Glasgow this weekend have refused to change its route despite ‘serious public disorder’ fears.

The James Connolly Republican Flute Band announced its intentions to take part in a St Patrick’s Day parade in the Govan area of the city on March 14.

It was proposed the group would take a similar route to one taken in August last year, when tensions boiled over between rival Republican and Loyalist factions.

Around 100 people are expected to take to the streets of Govan less than 24 hours before Celtic and Rangers are due to face off at Ibrox Stadium in a crucial Premiership clash.
