Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.

He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.

Prince Charles shares hopes 'bickering' won't return after 'togetherness' of Platinum Jubilee

Prince Charles has said he hopes that “bickering” does not return after a feeling of “togetherness” across the nation over the Platinum Jubilee weekend.

The Prince of Wales made the comments while he and wife Camilla mingled with guests at the Big Jubilee Lunch in The Oval cricket grounds, which was just one of several celebrations taking place across the country to mark The Queen’s 70 year reign.

Around 16,000 parties are expected to have taken place over the four day long weekend, bringing together communities across the UK in a show of solidarity and celebration for Her Majesty’s years of service.The event at the Oval honoured 70 volunteers from the Royal Voluntary Service's Platinum Champions Awards, who are recognised as Platinum Champions.

On the milestone occasion, Charles and Camilla presented each volunteer with a pin and certificate to mark their achievement, before getting stuck into a stunning cake adorned with Union Jack flags, London red buses, Big Ben and even some corgi dogs.
