Police have amped up stop and search powers in Altrincham after an 'increased risk of violence' in the area. It comes as a murder investigation was launched after Rico Burton, 31, was stabbed to death in the town early yesterday morning (Sunday August 21).
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) say the powers are in place to 'keep the public safe' after 'receiving intelligence that there is an increased risk of violence in the areas outlined'. They will stay in place until at least 3am tomorrow [Tuesday] morning, although police warn this could be extended further. Rico Burton, cousin of boxer Tyson Fury, was killed in the stabbing.
Officers and paramedics attended the scene at on Goose Green in the early hours of Sunday morning. He died in hospital a short time later.
