Police had to break up a group of people having a barbecue in a city centre park amid the coronavirus lockdown

Police have had to disperse a group of people who set up a barbecue in the middle of a city centre park. A group of 'about 11 people' were seen congregating in the middle of Sackville Gardens, less than 24 hours after the government announced a nationwide lockdown.

One man who was walking past spotted smoke from the barbecue and says the group had also brought three crates of beer with them.

He says police arrived and asked them to disperse, with one officer having to extinguish the barbecue. He said: "I was just walking back to my flat and I saw that they were in the park.
