A school teacher has swapped playground patrols for street patrols as a volunteer police officer during the coronavirus lockdown.
David Rudd is head of design of technology at Hindley High School in Wigan. Since the government ordered the closure of schools in March, he has been dedicating his time to his role as a Special Sergeant for Greater Manchester Police.
The Special Constabulary is made up of volunteer officers who assist with policing in local communities. Specials undertake five months of training before they are attested and given their authorities, which are the same as a regular police officer, including warrant of arrest.
