Perthshire councillor praises local policing in light of new drug crime data

A Perthshire councillor has praised the efforts of local policing in light of a spike in the number of recorded drug crimes.

Councillor Bob Brawn was speaking following a recent Police Scotland report showing that drugs crimes rose by 42 per cent, from 499 incidents to 708, between April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020 in Perth and Kinross.Those reported for being in possession of drugs rose from 420 incidents to 603, a rise of 43 per cent.The production, manufacture and cultivation of drugs, supply of drugs and those reported taking drugs into prison also spiked in the region.However, the convener of the housing and communities committee, which monitors and provides feedback on local police operations and performances, said the statistics in
