EXCLUSIVE: Phil Keoghan, host of The Amazing Race and Tough As Nails, is plotting another unscripted competition series for CBS.

The Amazing Race’s milestone 35th season kicks off on Wednesday, Sept. 27 — and will air 90-minute episodes instead of its customary hourlong installments.Host Phil Keoghan notes that “10:00 time slots are challenging,” so CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach liked the idea of “a block of reality television” instead of trying to fill something in between the series and “Survivor.”“It’s an experiment, like with anything you the audience so far,” he tells The Post. “From our point of view, what’s exciting is that we can open the show up a little bit.

But then came a detour: Early this winter, CBS approached both “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race” about expanding to weekly 90 minute episodes for fall 2023. Rather than try to retroactively try to pad an additional half hour on to those already-shot episodes, van Munster, Doganieri and Keoghan decided to hit the road again and take full advantage of filming supersized installments.

EXCLUSIVE: Tough as Nails returns for its fifth season and this time, it’s coming from the Great White North.

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large CBS’ “Tough As Nails” was a late addition to the Eye network’s summer schedule, as broadcasters continue to adjust their primetime schedules in light of the WGA writers strike. This time out, the competitive series — hosted and executive produced by Phil Keoghan (“The Amazing Race”) takes place north of the border for the first time. Variety has a first look at Season 5 of “Tough as Nails,” which premieres with a two-hour opener on Sunday, July 2 at 8 p.m. ET. The series will then continue to air twice a week, at 8 p.m. ET on Fridays and Sundays, on CBS and Paramount+. “To be completely honest, we didn’t see the launch of ‘Tough as Nails’ 5 happening so quickly but even with a short notice we are doing everything we can to make the most of this awesome opportunity,” Keoghan told Variety. “‘Tough As Nails’ appeals to people of all ages and a lot of our audience are early to bed early to rise so the early time slot is a chance to grab people like we did when we launched in the summer of 2020 as CBS’s highest rated new reality format in the last five years. We know there’s an audience in the summer who love our show and we are extremely excited to know we have something really special to share with them this season.”

Tough as Nails is coming back for a fifth season.

CBS has set premiere dates for its summer slate of reality television programming, including three returning and one new series.  “Secret Celebrity Renovation” kicks off the lineup with a July 28 premiere followed by the Aug. 2 debut of “Big Brother” Season 25. The all-new musical game show “Superfan” will launch on Aug. 9, and finally “The Challenge: USA” returns for its second season on Aug. 10.  “Big Brother’s” 25th season will debut with a special 90-minute episode on Wednesday, Aug. 2 at 8 p.m. ET while a group of new Houseguests arrive at the “Big Brother” house. Following its premiere, the series will air on Sundays and Wednesdays at 8 p.m. followed by Thursdays at 9 p.m. featuring live evictions.

It’s a big “dill”! CBS announced the eight celebrity teams competing in the two-hour sports comedy special Pickled. The pickleball competition includes big names such as Emma Watson, Kelly Rowland and more.

Emma Watson, Will Ferrell, Daniel Dae Kim and a group of other celebrities are set to battle it out on CBS’ Pickleball Tourney on Nov. 17.The two-hour comedy special, called “Pickled,” will feature a pickleball tournament hosted by “The Late Show’s” Stephen Colbert.

In November, he’ll be doing something similar with sports. The comedian will host a two-hour pickleball tournament, “Pickled,” that will feature 16 celebrities competing for a coveted “Colbert Cup” and benefit the non-profit Comic Relief U.S. “If you love pickleball and you love celebrities and you love helping people, you’re going to love watching these celebrities help people by playing pickleball,” said Colbert in a prepared statement. “Pickled” will debut on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. Celebrities taking part in “Pickled” include Jimmie Allen, Murray Bartlett, Dierks Bentley, Jaime Camil, Will Ferrell, Max Greenfield, Luis Guzman, Phil Keoghan, Daniel Dae Kim, Sugar Ray Leonard, Tig Notaro, June Diane Raphael, Kelly Rowland, Paul Scheer, Aisha Tyler and Emma Watson. Phil Keoghan can definitively say that  returning to television is one of the best things to happen to his career. And, after a pandemic-induced global shutdown that impacted production for 19 months, it's easy to see why he and the rest of the crew grew emotional after the show made its highly anticipated return.The longtime host spoke with ET's Lauren Zima and they discussed why some of the teams didn't return, what adjustments were made due to the COVID-19 pandemic and why the show is more relevant now than ever before.«It's one of the best things in my career, you know, coming back and seeing everybody smiling,» Keoghan said.But things didn't always look so bright.It was in February 2020 when Keoghan delivered the somber news that production was shutting down due to the unknown surrounding the virus.
