Rangers flop Pedro Caixinha has been axed after just two months with the side dubbed Celtic's "little brother". The Portuguese coach had a brief and unsuccessful spell at Ibrox, and was axed after just 27 matches.

Since the axe fell after a draw with Kilmarnock in October 2017, Caixinha has endured a nomadic career in Mexico and Saudi Arabia.

However, he had looked to get his career back on track with Santos Laguna, who he previously led to the Mexican title. The club and Celtic enjoy a close relationship, with the chief executive Martin Hollaender branding the Parkhead side the 'big brother' in their partnership, which was established eight years ago.

However, the former Rangers boss has been dumped by the club after just two months of the Liga MX campaign. The club are winless after six games and rooted to the bottom of the division, with the worst goal difference in the Mexican tip flight.A club statement read: "After carrying out the corresponding analysis of the performance and sports results at the time, the Santos Laguna Sports Committee decided to complete the cycle of Pedro Caixinha and his Technical Corps at the head of the First Team." We are grateful for the professionalism and dedication of Pedro and his work team, to whom we wish every success in their future projects."
