Ohio's early vote turnout at record pace, tripling 2016 tallies

Early voter turnout in Ohio is already at a record pace in the key battleground state, with three times as many residents casting ballots in the first week of voting compared to the same time in 2016.

A total of 193,021 Ohio residents cast early in-person ballots last week after elections centers opened on Oct. 6, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose’s office announced on Wednesday.

By comparison, just 64,312 voted early in-person during the same week in 2016. “Voter enthusiasm is off the charts and we couldn’t be happier,” LaRose said in a statement. “We’ve never seen this many people voting early in-person and it demonstrates what Ohioans know to be true - it’s easy to vote in the Buckeye State!” Elections officials also reported a surge.

Florida saw record breaking first day of early voting with millions of ballots cast
Floridians experienced a record-breaking first day of early voting in anticipation of the upcoming November election, with over 3.1 million votes cast.  More than 366,000 of those ballots were cast in-person on the first day, according to statistics from the Florida Division of Elections. The remainder, over 2.6 million voters, opted to vote by mail.  Of the over 3 million ballots, 1,003,891 were cast by Republicans, 1,324,836 by Democrats, 46,892 were identified as "other," while 774,633 had no party affiliation.  Early voting caused long lines throughout the state on Monday, as rows of people stretched around a local public library and various county buildings.

Tennessee court rules first-time registered voters don't need to vote in person
The U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Monday that first-time Tennessee voters don't need to cast a ballot in person on Election Day and should be given access to absentee options.  Judge Julia Smith Gibbons issued the ruling and claimed that "given the expected increase in absentee voting in the November 2020 election due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been increased interest in the state’s absentee-voting procedures," according to court documents obtained by Fox News.  She went on to say the plaintiffs’ claim challenged a restriction on first-time voters’ ability to vote absentee.

A man reportedly broke into a northern California home during two teenagers’ remote learning class, prompting their teacher to dial 911.  The man entered the home in Galt through a window, ran through the house and then out a back door before going over a fence, KOVR-TV reported Friday.Two teenage students were near the end of their remote class at the time, and their mother was not home.  Teacher Jennifer Petersen said she realized something was wrong when the teenagers did not log off at the end of the lesson from their home in the community 26 miles southeast of Sacramento. As conservatives' fears of election fraud roil Nevada, one of only two states to mail ballots to every voter this election, Nicholas Trutanich, the state's U.S. attorney, announced Friday that he would appoint a “district election officer” to handle concerns of voter fraud in conjunction with the Department of Justice.  "Every citizen must be able to vote without interference or discrimination and to have that vote counted without it being stolen because of election fraud.The Department of Justice will act appropriately to protect the integrity of the election process," Trutanich said in a statement.  Earlier this year, Nevada’s Democratic legislature passed a bill to make it a universal mail-in state.
