Take your mind back 27 years ago (we know) to 1995, when the Britpop movement was arguably at its apex. Two of its brightest stars were bands whose releases helped vault Britpop on to the international stage; Oasis and Blur.

Traditionally, two bands who never shied away from a headline-grabbing controversy or two. And in August 1995, one of the most talked-about and highly-publicised chart battles in Official Charts history took place.

The stage was set. Oasis and Blur had a new single each - Oasis' Roll With It and Blurs' Country House. Who would snatch the Official Singles Chart from the other became the topic of intense national debate and the chart battle even earned its own moniker - the Battle of Britpop!

The hysteria began when Blur moved the release date of Country House (the lead single from their fourth album, The Great Escape) up to directly clash with Oasis, who were dropping Roll With It (the second single from (What's The Story?) Morning Glory).
