Normal People to return for two specials after series one broke BBC iPlayer records

NORMAL People is returning for two specials after series one broke BBC iPlayer records. The hit drama is an adaptation of Sally Rooney's novel and follows the relationship between Marianne and Connell through high school all the way to University.

More than 23 million people streamed the series, breaking all previous records, and now two specials have been confirmed with stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal returning to their roles.

The specials will air this Friday (June 26) on RTÉ Does Comic Relief in Ireland, with the charity's co-founder Richard Curtis confirming the news to fans' delight.

Richard also confirmed director Lenny Abrahamson would be back, but the specials wouldn't necessarily be what fans expect. He told RTÉ Radio 1:.

After the apparent success of Hulu’s recent drama series, “Normal People,” based on the best-selling novel by Sally Rooney, it appears the streaming service is ready to move ahead with yet another adaptation of the author’s work with the development of a new show titled “Conversations with Friends.” According to Hulu, the streaming service has begun work on developing “Conversations with Friends” with the same production team, Element Pictures, behind the aforementioned “Normal People.” And just to keep the “Normal People” magic alive, it appears that Hulu is bringing back filmmaker Lenny Abrahamson to serve as lead director on the new series along with Alice Birch, who will serve as lead writer.
