TV’s late-night laughs will continue. But they will have to do so without live audiences to make them. New York’s top late-night talk shows will all cease for the foreseeable future to incorporate live audiences into their broadcasts.
The decision affects CBS’ “Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” NBC’s “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” and TBS’ “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” all said Wednesday that they would tape their broadcasts in theaters and studios without audience members.
In statements, all the shows indicated their staffers were safe, but that producers felt performing with live crowds would not be safe or smart.
