Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,
Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.
It was two years ago this month when Rangers fans first got a glimpse of Nathan Patterson in first team action. The young full back was handed a start by Steven Gerrard in a 2-0 win over Stranraer in a comfortable Scottish Cup win on a chilly Friday might.
Patterson’s performance was one of the few things to warm up the Gers fans that night in an otherwise drab game.“I was really pleased with Nathan Patterson,” said Gerrard afterwards. “I thought he was very positive, he done everything we’ve asked of him and everything we’ve been working on.” And from that moment Patterson emerged as the outstanding candidate to push captain James Tavernier in the right back slot.
