Mum meets new-born baby on FaceTime after giving birth while in a Covid-19 coma

A mum had no idea she had given birth to her baby boy while she was fighting for her life in a coma. Sophie Byrne, 28, met her baby son Joseph for the first time over FaceTime several weeks after he was born, the Liverpool Echo reports.

He was delivered by caesarean section while she was in a coma at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. Sophie, from Dovecot in Liverpool, had been placed on a ventilator at the hospital after her condition deteriorated after contracting Covid-19. A team from Liverpool Women's Hospital had to be brought into the Royal to deliver her baby 11 weeks early while she was still in the coma.
